Eight grassroots groups are sponsoring the event, and the forum is the movement’s first united effort toward supporting a candidate to challenge Rob Astorino for the Westchester County Executive election in November 2017.
The Candidate’s Forum will begin at 4 p.m, at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation Church, 2021 Albany Post Road in Croton-on-Hudson.
The three candidates vying for the Democrat spot on the ticket will take turns responding to questions from the audience and moderator in what promises to be a lively discussion.
Topics include the privatization of the county airport, the county’s financial standing and looming “day of reckoning," and immigrant protection.
For those not aware, County Legislator Ken Jenkins announced his candidacy in August 2016. State Senator George Latimer (D-Rye) will challenge him for the nomination at the party’s upcoming convention. Assemblyman Thomas Abinanti (D-Pleasantville) is still weighing whether to enter the race but is expected to make his decision within the next few weeks.
The seven area groups sponsoring the event include Action Together, Indivisible CD17, Indivisible Westchester-Rivertowns, Northern Westchester Indivisible, Indivisible Pleasantville, Up2Us, Up & Up Action Initiative, and Yorktown Together.
